Are you Happy to be in Paris?

Grab a humpday vino and reminisce with me about my Parisian adventure...

Letting you into a little secret, life happens... It happens fast, it happens in a whirlwind of madness and sometimes things do not go the way you had planned. I am a firm believer in acceptance, signs and hippy mumbo-jumbo like the world is pushing us all in the right direction, even if the roads a bit bumpy. Not having a summer holiday this year meant that a break away was long overdue. So here we are, bags packed, passports in hand and so ready to soak in the Parisian air.

Breaking all blogger rules, I didn't actually take many photographs for blog purposes as I was treating this as a complete meditative break and wanted to submerge myself into the streets, the art, the food and most importantly, the mojitos. I think it is super important to take a step back every now and then, away from technology and social media. With that said, here are a small selection of my favourite images for a mini tour of my Parisian adventure...

My home for the week was the burlesque themed Hotel Josephine, situated in the most perfect of all places. Smack bang in the middle of Montmarte, Hotel Josephine is literally a minutes walk from Blanche metro station, The Moulin Rouge, shops, cafés and bars. I immediately fell in love with the view from the hotel room window- Dreamy McDreamerson...

Being a part of the Happy Culture hotel group, every guest is served a free cocktail during happy hour at each hotel. So that means that if you are staying in one of the million Happy Culture hotels in the city, you can visit every hotel for a free cocktail... music to my ears. As our hotel was burlesque themed, we had a cocktail made of absinthe and magic.

The entrance lounge is pretty damn lovely, with the back wall home to a large collection library of books, doubling up as a cocktail bar. Eclectic shades, mixed with velvet upholstered chairs in bold, vibrant colour served as the hotels show stopper and social area. The rich colour, texture and patterns were typical of burlesque, moulin rouge style. All we need now is Toulouse- Lautrec and a lady of the night to bring the 1900's back to life.

Warning!
The entrance lounge comes comes equipped with selfie props that seem to fall into your hands when you have been drinking a little too much!

One massive reason for coming to Paris was for the art. With two of the most amazing art houses in the world, my excitement levels were running on overdrive when I found out that I would be going to pay a visit to Mona Lisa's house. As you can probably tell by the next image. When you are more geek than chic, sometimes you have to just go for it anyway...

One of the most magical elements of The Louvre is that it is completely stunning, both inside and out. This 12th century palace is now home to some of the most important art works of our time including pieces by Da Vinci, Carravagio and Michaelangelo.

The interiors of the palace are second to none. I can't quite describe with any justice, just how intricate each square centimetre of the entire building was. It saddens me to think that we just don't design like this anymore. Although, realistically gold gilding and hand painted ceilings are a bit ambitious and pricey, but a girl can dream!
One word of advice would be to wear some kind of scarf, or neck support. If you are anything like me and obsessive over buildings, you will be spending a helluva lot of time looking up!

Paris, in particular Montemarte, definitely comes alive in the night. One of my favourite things about Paris is that each night people spill out across rows of seating areas outside cafés, restaurants and bars to eat together, drink, smoke and socialise into the late evening.

Day three brought the Museé d'Orsay and that climb to the top of Montemarte to the Sacre Coeur. The sunshine was hiding for us, but the views were still to die for. A large food and drink market surrounded the building and the steps leading to the top of the climb, were flowing with people drinking wine and eating anything and everything from cheese to churros.

The Museé d'Orsay is one of my all time favourite museums. The walls are filled with some of my faves from Van Gogh, to Monet and that old dawwg Toulouse Loutrec. It is almost as though you are walking through an art book. The walls as pages and the paintings more majestic than you ever imagined.

On the final day of Paris, we ventured to the artists quarter of Montemarte. This magic square was once a second home to the likes of Van Gogh and Picassso, all trying to make a living from their paintings. Although I didn't end up bumping into Picasso himself, the painters that now occupy this space are still bloody talented.

Finally, what trip to Paris would be complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower? Admittedly, there were way more photos, but the internet just didn't need any more photos of me being goofy and eating churros, so you'll have to imagine the rest.

I'd love to hear about your Parisian adventures and your favourite Paris hideouts in time for my next trip...

Until next time,
